What It Means to be A Member of a Church & a Partner in Ministry
Membership
Often times when people hear the word member or membership they think of paying dues, and having their name on some roll.
However, the Word of God teaches that being a Member of the Body of Christ and having membership in a local Church is much more than paying dues, and having your name on a roll. Rather, the Body of Christ is God’s design to grow and develop Believers into mature “Disciples.” Through the Body (members) we receive strength, encouragement and love (Romans 12:4-5; I Corinthians 12:12; Ephesians 4:15-16; 5:30).
Membership is an act of commitment (a pledge or promise) to a specific congregation. The benefits (advantages) of being a member of a Church (Church = a living organism comprised of people who have given their life to Christ and received His salvation) are:
- It provides a spiritual family to support and encourage you in your walk with Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2, Hebrews 10:25-25)
- It gives you a place to discover and use your gifts in ministry.
(Romans 12:3-8; I Corinthians 12:4-11)
- Causes your life to flourish and be fruitful (Psalm 52:8-9; 92:12-15)
- A balanced spiritual diet that will nourish and strengthen you spiritually
- It places you under the spiritual protection of godly leadership.
(Hebrews 13:7, 17; Acts 20:28-29)
The church provides you with benefits you cannot find anywhere else in the world. God does not want His children growing up in isolation from each other, so He created a spiritual family on earth – called the Body of Christ.
Partnership
When we think of Partnership, we think of one who participates or shares with another in some action or endeavor. We are in partnership with Christ in this ministry work, and we are a people: (This principle can be seen in Luke chapter 5):
- who are spiritually discerning in their everyday practices
- who will use their personal resources and their talents to advance the “Kingdom”
- who are concern about the Lost and those who are ignorant to the Truth
- who are teachable
- who will move out of familiarity and comfort zones in their personal and spiritual walk
- who will hear and respond to the voice of the Lord
- who are empowered by the anointing beyond their ability
- who has greater confidence in Christ than in their flesh
- who is anointed to Excel
- who is made fruitful in their endeavors
- who shares in the blessings with the local Body and the Body of Christ
What You Can Expect From this Church!
- We will submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ as Head of this Church and stay in tune with the move of God.
- We will make every effort to provide caring and effective pastoral leadership.
- We will commit to lead you by sound teaching, wise and godly leadership so that you, your family and others will be happy and blessed to be a part of this local assembly.
- We will equip, activate and bless you to fulfill your personal calling.
- We will help you release your God-given gifts into the church with many opportunities to serve.
- We will be diligent stewards of your financial contributions.
- We will never willfully nor maliciously wound or hurt you or your family.
- We will teach the whole counsel of God's Word in a way that will minister to your "spirit," "soul" and body.
- We will train and instruct your children in the Word of God.
- We will provide a full range of ministry activities to involve the entire family.
- We will advance the Kingdom of God in our community and in the world.
- We will serve as a resource center to other ministries.
